Canoeing is a great way to get out on the water to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Ensure you and your paddling partners are prepared by joining local certified experts as they guide you through trip planning, required equipment, safety tips and technical instruction for canoeing on our Rocky Mountain lakes and rivers.

A little training from the experts will significantly enhance your fun and safety.

Spring/Summer 2022 Courses

These courses are for Banff residents. 
To register for a course  you must have an active client account, and be logged in.

River Canoeing 
Ages 13+
June 2, 4, & 5
Designed for those with lake canoeing experience and who want to enhance their skills and slip into moving water. Led by certified and local guides we will help advance your paddling, communication and rescue skills, all of which are essential for safe river canoe tripping. You will also learn how to enter and exit an eddy, navigate currents and identified hazards above and below the water. Open to all genders and abilities. This session is being offered as a part of Recreation and Parks Month.

Big Canoe Trip 
Ages 6+
Monday, June 6, 3:30 – 5 p.m.
Celebrate Recreation and Parks Month on a big canoe adventure on the Bow River.  As you journey upstream your guide will entertain you with stories on the history of canoeing in Banff National Park. The trip includes a guide, all safety equipment and paddling instruction. Open to all genders and abilities.
Cost: $10 Register Online.

Intermediate River Canoeing
Ages 13+
June 9, 11, & 12
Designed for those who have already taken a river canoeing course and feel comfortable canoeing in class I to II+ water. Learn new skills and go through real-life scenarios to prepare yourself for the water. Led by certified and local guides we will help advance your paddling, communication and rescue skills. Open to all genders. This session is being offered as a part of Recreation and Parks Month.

Try-Lake Canoeing 
Ages 13+
Tuesday, June 21, 5 – 7 p.m.
In this short introductory session, local experts will teach you how to launch a canoe, basic paddle strokes, rescue techniques and more. Open to all genders and abilities.

BanffLIFE Lake Canoeing
Ages 18 – 30
Tuesday, August 4, 2 – 5 p.m.
Introduction to lake canoeing has local experts leading you through all the basics of canoeing including, how to get your canoe in and out of the water, paddle strokes, self-rescue and more. Equipment is provided. Open to all genders and abilities. This program is being generously supported by the Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation.
