Recreation and Parks Day

Time outdoors increases confidence, boosts mental health and immune system, reduces stress, and connects us to the places we live and the environments we need to protect. Join us on June 4 as we launch Recreation and Parks Month in Canada at the Banff Recreation Grounds.  All the fun happens between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., come down and enjoy building spring crowns, sipping on some Japanese Tea while listening to a story with the Banff Library, meeting other locals and enjoying a BBQ from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

Learn to Skateboard
Come down to the skatepark and learn to use your skateboard for transportation or playing in the park. You will spend the morning with several members of the Banff skateboarding community learning about equipment, how to ride and etiquette in the park. Registration required.

Storytime in the Park
Join the Banff Public Library for fun and interactive storytime in the park. You and your family will enjoy a story with the songs of the birds in the background. No registration required.

Family Bear Aware
This hands-on program will provide you and your family with the information that will prepare you to travel safely in bear country.  You will learn about the general characteristics and habits of bears, how to use bear spray and how to enjoy exploring our local trails while being bear prepared. Registration required.

Art in the Park
Enjoy an hour of guided outdoor painting.  Your instructor Mindy will have you using acrylic paints to create a beautiful outdoor masterpiece.  All materials provided. Registration Required.

Art & Yoga in the Garden with Mindy
Discover the beauty of practicing yoga and creating a piece of art in the garden. With an abundance of flowers in bloom we’ll have endless inspiration from savouring the smells with mindful movements to intuitively painting our favourite flowers. Registration Required.

Creative Craft Kits and Grow your own Garden Kits
The Banff Library is providing free Creative Craft Kits and a Grown Your Own Garden Kits which can be picked up at the Banff Recreation Grounds on June 4 or you can stop by the library between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. throughout the month of June to pick up.

Family Guided Hike
Join a family-guided hike and learn what you need to pack and know for a safe and enjoyable day on the trails. This hike will cover the 10 Essentials for a day hike, how to choose a trail for your families hiking ability, tips to keep your group together and motivated, Leave No Trace and how to be WildSmart.
