WHAT: Female elk displaying defensive behaviour.
WHERE: Tunnel Mountain trails and the area surrounding and including the Banff Centre
WHY: Female elk have aggressively charged people in defense of their space.
- Stay 30 meters away from all elk;
- Keep your distance from wildlife, give them the space they need;
- Walk on open roads rather than forest trails to avoid stumbling upon females elk or calves;
- Keep children within arm’s reach and always keep dogs on a leash;
- Travel in groups and carry a walking stick, pepper spray or umbrella.
