In order to help control the spread of COVID-19, the Town of Banff has closed the Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre and the facility at 101 Bear Street, until further notice.

“These closures are significant measures that will help stop the spread of the COVID-19,”said Chief Silvio Adamo, Director of Emergency Management for the Town of Banff. “We understand this may be disruptive to people in our community, but the health and safety of all people in Banff is our top priority.”

The Fenlands houses two ice arenas, a curling rink and meeting rooms. All programs in the facility are also closed.

The facility at 101 Bear Street hosts leisure and recreation activities, child and adult programs and a seniors drop-in centre. All programming is cancelled. The 101 Bear Street facility is above the Banff Public Library, which was also closed today.

On March 13, 2020, the Town of Banff activated its Municipal Emergency Plan. The Town also partially activated its Emergency Coordination Centre. This provides more authority to the Town to mobilize resources locally and make decisions to address this evolving situation.

“Individuals and organizations in Banff must take steps to stop the spread of this new coronavirus. Stay up to date with the latest health advice from Alberta Health and updates from the Town,” Said Chief Adamo.
