[ARCHIVED] Online tool helps Banffites recycle

Zero Waste Trail News

A new tool designed to help Banff residents recycle more launches online October 19.

The ‘What Goes Where’ web application is a one-stop shop for information about what can be recycled in the Town of Banff, what can be donated for re-use, and what needs to be thrown away.

“We know Banff residents want to do the right thing when it comes to environmental protection, and they are eager to help us eliminate all waste going to landfill by 2050,” said Karen Sorensen, Mayor of the Town of Banff. “This tool will help residents when they are sorting household materials, especially people who have moved here from other municipalities where they may have a different waste diversion system.”

Launched in conjunction with Waste Reduction Week, October 19-25, the web tool lists over 200 materials from aluminum foil to motor oil and how to dispose of them properly.

“We want to take the guesswork out of what can be recycled. Instead of just throwing something away, people can check the app first and see if they can recycle or donate the item,” said Carla Bitz, environmental coordinator for the Town of Banff.

The ‘What Goes Where’ online tool will be available at BanffZeroWasteTrail.ca. The web app also allows residents to suggest items that may not be listed so they can be added in the future to build the database and help increase recycling opportunities.

In addition to the launch of the recycling tool, there are a number of events planned for Waste Reduction Week in Banff:
