To release traffic pressure on the Town of Canmore, and for safety and infrastructure reasons, the following traffic plan will be in effect for the next 48 hours.
Vehicles in Canmore
Vehicles will be allowed to travel to Calgary and points east. Exit the community over the Bow River bridge and then via Three Sisters Parkway following the detour signs. See maps for detour route on the websites. Once on the Trans Canada Highway, the speed limit is 60 km/h and PASSING IS NOT PERMITTED. You will not be allowed to return to Canmore on the highway until further notice.
Westbound traffic out of Canmore is unrestricted though an undivided, two-way section of Trans-Canada Highway. The speed limit is 60 km/h and PASSING IS NOT PERMITTED.
Vehicles in Banff
Motorists in Banff needing to get to Calgary must use Highway 93 South – The Kootenay Parkway or Highway 93 North – The Icefields Parkway. Alternatively, people in Banff can take a designated airport shuttle bus to the Calgary airport. Details and schedule can be found here:

The Banff Airporter will drop off and pick up in Canmore at Canmore Collegiate. Brewster Transportation will pick up in Lake Louise.
Motorists can still access Banff National Park and the Town of Banff from the west. Further travel on to Canmore will not be allowed.
Banff/Canmore Commuters
No private passenger vehicles are permitted EASTBOUND on the Trans-Canada Highway between Banff and Canmore. If you need to commute between Banff and Canmore, you must use the “Roam” shuttle bus until further notice.
The Banff Legacy Trail remains closed due to bridge failure.
Other Information
Travel into Canmore is strictly controlled. No private WESTBOUND vehicles are permitted on the Trans-Canada Highway or Highway 1A between Hwy 40 and Canmore, with the exception of emergency vehicles and those providing relief services.

River Advisory for Bow River in Banff
A Flood Warning remains in effect for the Bow River at the Town of Banff and the Town of Canmore. Bow Ave., Birch Ave., Bow Falls Road and all river pathways remains closed. The weather forecast is for scattered thunderstorms, with no significant accumulation. River levels are dropping. However, for your safety, obey all closures and STAY AWAY FROM THE RIVER.
