[ARCHIVED] Modifying Program Offerings and Facility Use Guidelines

Town Hall Summer

Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the community, the Town of Banff will be modifying program offerings and facility use guidelines starting November 23, 2020 until further notice.  These changes are being made with your safety in mind and they aim to limit the potential for close contact between users.  The Town of Banff has decided to adopt the Order made by the Chief Medical Health Officer for the Edmonton and Calgary Zones for physical activity and sport (CMOH Order 37-2020). Not all programs will be impacted – just those where there is a greater likelihood of close contact (such as cohorted sport programs).

Indoor Group Fitness: Indoor group fitness classes offered by the Town will be either postponed or moved to an online platform. Examples of classes include yoga, senior’s fitness, dance conditioning, and Zumba.

The Town of Banff will strive to transfer Community Services led programs to online platforms as we recognize how important these sessions are for maintaining your health and well-being.

Cohort Sports and Activities: Cohorted team sports and activities offered by the Town including Ball Sport Night, Get Out and The Basement will be either postponed or moved to an online platform.   Cohorted hockeypractices and games coordinated by minor hockey and adult leagues will be postponed at this time.

Figure Skating: In alignment with Skate Canada Return to Play guidance for Alberta – NWT/Nunavut, physically distancing CanSkate program can continue with an instructor to participant ratio that does not exceed 1:1 (https://skateabnwtnun.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/November-13th-COVID-19-Section-Update.pdf).

Please note, that should you no longer want to participate in a program or would like to cancel your booking, cancellation fees will not be applied.   To process a cancellation please call 403.762.1235 or e-mail recreation@banff.ca.

The Town’s Park and Facilities teams are working hard to install outdoor ice surfaces at both the Banff Community High School field and the Fenlands Meadow.  The Fenlands Meadow will be available for rent by current user groups upon its opening from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Friday (approximately ½ NHL ice sheet).

We understand that these changes are can be challenging for organization’s volunteers, parents and guardians and participants. If you have any questions or concerns please e-mail, recreation@banff.ca.
