BANFF AB - 10 a.m. - Just a week since bridges east of Banff were torn apart by severe flooding, four-lane traffic is once again moving along the Trans-Canada Highway between the Banff National Park East Gate and the town of Banff. Crews have constructed a detour road and culvert bridge at Carrot Creek to repair the damaged west-bound lanes. This temporary solution will be in place through the summer while a permanent replacement bridge is being built.
Parks Canada welcomes Canadians to Banff National Park for the Canada Day weekend. We continue to offer amazing and memorable experiences Banff visitors expect, as most visitor services remain largely unaffected by the flooding. All visitor centres and most campgrounds are open, however, backcountry camping is currently unavailable until further notice. Many of Banff’s key attractions such as the gondolas at Lake Louise and Banff, the Cave and Basin National Historic Site, the Icefields Parkway and Lake Louise are all open. Visitors are encouraged to check with Parks Canada for updates and current conditions at the following site:

The Banff National Park East Gate has reopened and regular park entry fees are in effect -- except on Canada Day (July 1) when park entry is free.
Although the Trans-Canada Highway is now fully restored to a 4-lane divided highway throughout Banff National Park, motorists can expect to encounter construction zones and are advised to travel with extra care as workers continue to repair flood damage at Carrot Creek and other locations.
For your own safety, and to protect others:
- respect all traffic signs and traffic control personnel;
- obey speed limits as posted;
- be alert for wildlife on the road (repairs to the wildlife fence
are still underway); and
- be prepared for occasional delays.
All traffic regulations will continue to be strictly enforced.
CYCLISTS please note: The Legacy (cycling) Trail beside the Trans-Canada Highway between the park's East Gate and the turn-off to Banff remains closed, due to impassable sections. Please exercise extra caution if you choose to cycle on the Trans-Canada Highway.
