Smoke alert! Prescribed burning in progress.
The Town of Banff is working to reduce the risk of wildfire spreading in town by removing trees and deadfall that could become fuel for fire in our urban forests. Until late March, crews and contractors will be removing some standing trees, pruning branches and reducing deadfall. Controlled burning of piles of deadfall will occur in four locations:
- Cave Avenue
- Between the Inns of Banff and Tatanga
- Marmot Crescent
- Compound Road
Crews will attempt to reduce the impact of smoke for residents but it will be apparent in some neighbourhoods.
Please do not call 911/Emergency services for smoke from this prescribed burn.
This week involves work in 8 locations (totalling almost 5 hectares) within the townsite.
