The Compound Meadows prescribed fire excursion remains to be classified as ‘being held’ at 3 hectares.
Today, fire crews will work on containing the excursion and actioning hotspots. Assessment of damaged infrastructure will also take place. Residents and visitors may see increased helicopter activity in the area while crews work on the ground.
◾ Banff Avenue is open, but we ask that the public follow posted speed reductions and on-site flaggers as fire crews are working roadside.
◾ There may be temporary delays along the legacy trail from the Minnewanka Loop interchange to Banff Avenue while crews assess burned trees for the safety of the public.
We would like to thank the professional fire personnel, interagency partners and contractors for their quick response yesterday.Yearly training events between Parks Canada and the Town of Banff ensure personnel can respond in a timely, coordinated manner. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the community for their support at this time.
An evening update will be provided later today by 2000h unless the fire situation changes
