Incumbent Mayor Karen Sorensen was re-elected Monday, October 21 with 946 votes. Mayoral candidate Jim Abelseth received 703 votes and Cynthia Anderson received 211 votes.
Ten council candidates, including four incumbents, were in the race for six council positions. All four incumbents were re-elected – Stavros Karlos, Brian Standish, Grant Canning and Chip Olver will return to the council table for the next four years. Joining them will be first-term town councillors Corrie DiManno and Ted Christensen.
The new council will be sworn in on Monday, October 28 at 2 p.m. at Banff Town Hall and immediately after hold their first meeting.
Incumbent school board trustees Kim Bater and Arlene Rheaume were acclaimed in the Canadian Rockies Regional School Division No.2 – Banff Ward.
The total number of residents casting a ballot in the 2013 municipal election was 1,878, up from 2010 when 1,619 voted.
