[ARCHIVED] Film festival short to be replayed at Council

Banff residents without tickets to the sold-out DamNation event tomorrow evening (November 8) at the Banff Mountain Film Festival will still have an opportunity to view at least part of the show at Monday's council meeting.

Connectivity - Restoring 40 Mile Creek is a four-minute movie about the decommissioning of 40 Mile Dam, produced on behalf of the Town by local filmmakers Mike Quigley and Mark Unrau. It was funded by Banff resident Peter Poole and Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative.

The short is premiering at the festival in conjunction with showing the of the film DamNation and the talk by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. Staff will show it again Monday afternoon at council and will post to the Town's website.

The decommissioning of 40 Mile Creek dam in May 2014 was a joint project by the Town of Banff and Parks Canada with funding from the Province of Alberta. The 40 Mile Creek Dam once supplied Banff with drinking water and water to fight fires. Located between the two entrances to town, it was built in 1946, but hadn't been used as a water source since the mid-1980s. The project involved a partial removal of the dam structure to allow the water to flow freely, and removal of some exposed pipes.
