Council voted to conduct a municipal census this year that includes the shadow population of Banff. The population count is the basis for calculating per capita provincial grants for municipalities, and the information can help in developing future plans, policies and programs. The census will be conducted from June 16 to July 20. The last municipal census was done in 2011. John Bowden was appointed to the Banff Community Art Committee by council. His term will end at this year’s annual organizational meeting. Bowden replaces committee member Michale Lang, who resigned from the position. Council adopted a standard of responding to residents within two business days on their Action Request submissions. If a resident requests a follow-up from a staff member on any request, they can expect a call or email within that timeframe. Council also voted to receive a report two times a year on the number of Action Requests received, and compliance with that response time standard. Council voted in favour of the Town of Banff making an offer on 240/242 Marmot Crescent at a 95% reduction to the reserve price for the development of an affordable home ownership project. Council directed administration to research changes to the language in Parks Canada leases, review the changes that might affect property in Banff, and make a recommendation as to whether or not council should comment to Parks Canada on the issue.
