[ARCHIVED] Apply for a Committee

Town Hall

Apply for a committee or board and share your passion and expertise.

You must complete a separate application if you are applying for multiple boards/committees.

Eligibility

  • Anyone 18 years or older can apply
    • The Community Grants Committee also accepts applications from those 16+
  • Anyone who lives in Banff is eligible (you do not need to be a Canadian citizen)

Term length

  • Terms can range from one year to three years

Deadline to apply

Applications are due by October 4, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. Council appoints committee members at the annual organizational meeting on Monday, October 28.

The municipal clerk will review all applications to ensure compliance with the Committee Appointments Policy (PDF). Complete applications will be provided to council, who will decide which applicants to appoint to various board and committees. 

Committees/Boards

Municipal Planning Commission
Makes decisions on development and land use issues.  Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m. Honorarium: $105 for less than 4 hours; $210 for 4 hours or over.

Development Appeal Board
Rules on appeals of development permit approvals and subdivision approvals. Meetings are held only when an appeal has been received.  Honorarium: $150 for less than 4 hours; $250 for 4 hours or over.

Banff Heritage Corporation
Works for the protection, preservation, enhancement and promotion of the Town of Banff’s heritage resources. Meetings are held the third Thursday of every other month at 1:30 p.m. 

Banff Public Library Board
Oversees the operation of the Banff Public Library and reports annually to council for budget purposes. Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. 

Community Art Committee
Advises council on opportunities to acquire and place public art in our community.  Meetings are held bi-monthly.

Banff Housing Corporation
Manages over 180 properties in its portfolio.  Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at 8:30 a.m.

Community Grants Committee
Reviews grant applications and recommends financial allocations to council for projects that enhance quality of life for residents. The committee meets annually in the spring. The committee is actively recruiting a board member 16-18 years old. 

Assessment Review Board
Hears appeals from assessed persons and taxpayers regarding the assessment of property, and issues decisions on property assessment disputes. Hearings are typically held in September or October. Term: 4 years. Honorarium: $150 for less than 4 hours; $250 for 4 hours or over.
