Building deconstruction and tree removal starts for new housing site

The Town of Banff is proceeding with work to build The Aster, a price-restricted housing development in the heart of Banff. The project is progressing with large buildings on the Banff Avenue site being dismantled for recovery and disposal — after asbestos removal —and a cabin will be incorporated into the site for its heritage value. Many trees will be removed in the coming weeks to make room for construction of the new housing development and underground parkade, and to remove fire and fall hazards. At least two large, healthy trees will be incorporated into the site, and after completion of the new building, about 15 new deciduous trees and 100 shrubs will be added.
