Banff restaurant and hair salon awarded  Zero Waste Trailblazer honours

Nourish Bistro and Botega Salon & Gallery are the latest recipients of the Zero Waste Trailblazer Awards, a recognition for Banff businesses and institutions that go above and beyond efforts to reduce, re-use and recycle.

Zero Waste Trailblazers are selected based on 10 categories and 20 certification criteria relating to waste reduction and diversion practices, measured results, and related environmental protection initiatives. Learn more about the latest recipients at banff.ca/news.

Help newcomers adjust to life in Banff

Apply to become a Community Champion. As a Community Champion you will use your strong connections to the community, and your cultural group, to help newcomers settle and integrate successfully in Banff. You will be trained to help newcomers connect to information on language, culture, social and recreational opportunities, affordability, health services, and much more. Honorariums are available for training and when outreach services are completed. Apply by February 8, 2021. Email your resume to shawn.carr@banff.ca or call 403.762.1255.

Energy Efficiency funding, training available for Banff businesses

Businesses in Banff qualify for new programs to help save money and improve environmental protection through energy efficiency measures. Up to $250,000 is available per project to a maximum of $500,000 per company. Eligible projects include energy-efficient upgrades such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technologies, building automation, hot water systems, lighting upgrades and onsite electricity generation. Help Prevent the Spread

  • Keep a 2-metre/6-foot distance (about the length of a ski pole in your outstretched arm) from everyone not in your household, whether you are inside or outside

  • No indoor social gatherings are permitted in any setting. Outdoor gatherings are limited to a maximum of 10 people, and 2 metres between people from different households must be maintained.

  • Stay home if you feel sick – this is the law – you must  stay home for 10 days and should arrange testing if you have a COVID symptom 

  • Stay home for 14 days if you are notified that you have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID

  • Wear a mask in public places – and wear it properly over your nose and chin

  • Wash or sanitize your hands frequently (note some hand sanitizers are not rated to work when cold)
