Banff Avenue is being turned into a Downtown Pedestrian Zone for one day on December 31 for music and activities in the heart of Banff. During the day, join your Bow Valley friends, neighbours, colleagues, and family for a fun and safe event in one of the world’s most beautiful pedestrian areas. Lift your spirits with live music, performers, warming fire pits, and refreshing ways to take care of yourselves and each other. Holiday Skating Drop-Ins
The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre
Drop-in for public skating, shinny, and more this holiday season. Skating is free for those with a drop-in membership. All the holiday ice schedule details are banff.ca/Dropin. Please note that access to The Fenlands indoor facilities is subject to the province’s Restriction Exemption Program (alberta.ca/REP).
Outdoor Skating
The Fenlands is home to a 16,000 sq. ft. public outdoor ice skating rink in the beautiful meadow. The rink is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The ice-skating rink is located behind the curling facility through the walking path next to the overflow parking lot. An additional outdoor rink for free public use is also being created at the Banff Train Station. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook for opening updates.
New traffic bylaw proposes to change
town-wide speed limit
There’s a new proposed bylaw that would change all speed limits within the Town of Banff to 30 km/h. Council will debate the bylaw on January 10, 2022. Members of the public are invited to provide input by writing to town council, or a verbal presentation at the beginning of the meeting. Youth Aquatic Leadership Program
Applications are now being accepted for Banff’s Youth Aquatic Leadership Program. This program provides youth between the ages of 16 and 25 with the funding to obtain the necessary certifications to become a lifeguard, from first aid and Bronze Star, to National Lifeguard. Certified youth will have a chance to interview with the Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation Centre and if hired, receive a $500 honorarium. Learn more at
