National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

In 2021, the Government of Canada proclaimed the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, to be commemorated on September 30 every year. On this day, you are encouraged to wear an Orange Shirt, reflect on the tragic and painful history of residential schools, engage in conversations to advance truth and reconciliation. Alone, with your family, or together with others in our community, please take time to remember, reflect and consider ways we can better listen and learn from Indigenous Peoples, for the benefit of all people in Banff and across Canada. To find events for reflection and learning, visit banff.ca/NDTR.

Join a Banff Community Committee

Help contribute to Banff by providing your advice on topics such as public art, grants to community groups, the library, development proposals, heritage properties and housing. Make a difference with your time,  some of the positions only require a few hours about four times a year.  No previous board experience necessary. Anyone who lives in Banff and is 18+ (16+ for the Grants Committee) is encouraged to apply by noon on Monday, October 3. To learn more, and to find an application, visit banff.ca/Committees.

Food scraps and recycling must be separated by businesses

The Town of Banff has passed a bylaw that requires the non-residential sector to separate food scraps and recycling from garbage. The bylaw will be in effect Saturday, October 1,with enforcement beginning in 2023. Many Banff businesses are already taking this measure, and some have even been awarded Trailblazers status for going above and beyond in their efforts to move toward zero waste. We can meet with your business to provide information on the bylaw and present to staff. Visit banff.ca/BusinessFoodWaste for more information on the bylaw requirements or email zero.waste@banff.ca.
