New Year's Eve in Banff

Get outside with MountainLIFE

MountainLIFE programs are designed for adults aged 30+ that want to connect with their peers, get outdoors and enjoy mountain life to the fullest. Learn to Ice Climb, or how to ski or snowboard in the backcountry safely with courses throughout the winter. To learn more, visit banff.ca/MountainLIFE.


Clear all snow and ice from sidewalks

Whether you own or rent, you must clear the sidewalks outside your home of snow and ice to bare pavement within 24 hours of the last snowfall. If you don’t, you could face a fine of $100. If the Town has to clear your sidewalk, you’ll be charged an hourly labour rate, plus 25%. Find out more at banff.ca/WinterSidewalks. 

Become a snow angel

The Snow Angel program pairs volunteers with those needing help clearing their driveways and sidewalks. Call the senior support coordinator at 403.762.1253 to find out more or visit banff.ca/Volunteer.

Outdoor skating rinks are open!

The Fenlands Meadow rink and the Train Station rink are both open in Banff! The Fenlands Meadow rink is open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., and the Train Station rink is open from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.

The Singing Tree Music Series is back for a night of Jazz and mocktails. Join in the

Winter Solstice Family Celebration

Wednesday, December 21, 6 – 8  p.m.

Spend this Winter Solstice celebrating with your family at the Rundle Cabin. Make crafts, enjoy storytelling, and take part in tree decorating. Family cross-country skiing and snowshoeing programs

Family cross-country skiing
Saturday, January 28, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Join other local families for a fun afternoon of cross-country skiing with a certified guide. Play in the snow and learn new skills on skis! 

Family snowshoeing adventure
Saturday, January 28, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Experience snowshoeing through with your family. A local guide will lead you on this adventure. 


Mountain Madness Relay Race

Friday, February 3, 1 – 5 p.m., Register by Thursday, January 19
Team up and take part in this legendary local relay race! With a team of five, the relay starts at the top of Mt. Norquay with a downhill ski, skate at The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre, and then finish up at the Banff Recreation Grounds for the running, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing segments. Compete for the fastest time, the best costumes, or the wackiest team name. The race runs 1 – 3 p.m., followed by the after party, 3 – 5 p.m. To learn more, and to register your team, visit banff.ca/MountainMadness.
