The Town of Banff offers a wide variety of active living and wellness programs for Bow Valley residents. Swim to Survive®
The Canadian Swim to Survive program is a great way for you, your children, new Canadians or those with limited swimming abilities to learn basic safety skills when in or around lakes, rivers or swimming pools.  In the Swim to Survive session, your certified instructor will teach you what to do if you unexpectedly fall into deep water including, how to roll, tread water and swim 50 meters or to the closest point to safety.

Blended Emergency First Aid
This Red Cross blended learning first aid program is a combination of in-class and online instruction led by a certified Red Cross instructor. First aid theory is covered in the online instruction and skill development and theory application in the in-class instruction. This basic course offers an overview of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace or home, meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Open to all genders and abilities. Ages 16+.

First aid theory is covered in the online instruction and skill development and theory application in the in-class instruction. The course will cover first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. The course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Open to all genders and abilities. Ages 16+.

Infant First Aid & CPR
This class is designed for parents and caregivers with infants and young children. A certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor will cover CPR, choking and wound management and introduce the basics of infant first aid. This is an educational workshop and does not provide certification upon completion. Open to all genders and abilities.

Bear Aware in Person
Join the Town of Banff and Parks Canada in an interactive Bear Aware session that will have you learning how to be safe in bear country. The 60 minute in-person session will be led by two Parks Canada wildlife specialists and includes a presentation on how to identify different types of bears, common bear behaviours and tools and tips to prevent bear encounters. This session is being held as a part of Recreation and Parks Month.

Big Canoe Trip
Celebrate Recreation and Parks Month on a big canoe adventure on the Bow River.  As you journey upstream your guide will entertain you with stories on the history of canoeing in Banff National Park. The trip includes a guide, all safety equipment and paddling instruction. Open to all genders and abilities.

Bike Maintenance Clinic
Its Bike Month! Grab your bike and join us for a one hour session led by a certified bike mechanic to help keep your ride rolling all year long. In the session you will learn about bike components, how to properly clean your bike, basic maintenance (repair a tire, adjust your breaks, etc.) and when to visit your local bike shop.  Open to all genders and abilities. This session is hosted by Snowtips-Bactrax.

Historical Bike Tour of Banff
On this casual ride around the Town of Banff you will learn some fun facts about the history of Banff while getting some fresh air and exercise. Led by the Town of Banff’s very own Manager of Strategic Initiatives + Special Projects. This session is being offered as a part of Bike Month.

Intermediate River Canoeing
Designed for those who have already taken a river canoeing course and feel comfortable canoeing in class I to II+ water. Learn new skills and go through real-life scenarios to prepare yourself for the water. Led by certified and local guides we will help advance your paddling, communication and rescue skills. River Canoeing
Designed for those with lake canoeing experience and who want to enhance their skills and slip into moving water. Led by certified and local guides we will help advance your paddling, communication and rescue skills, all of which are essential for safe river canoe tripping. You will also learn how to enter and exit an eddy, navigate currents and identified hazards above and below the water. Open to all genders and abilities.
